This 4-hour Supporting Older Adults Remotely (SOAR) Certification is an advanced certificate on older adults and digital technologies in the context of digital peer support. This certification includes dyadic training on: Technologies for Older Adults; How to Access Technology; Learning How to Use Technology; Creating a Welcoming Digital Space for Older Adults; Normal Aging and Technology; The Role of Family and Caregivers in Technology; Recognizing Signs of Abuse and Neglect; What You Can Do To Address Abuse; Scams Directed Towards Older Adults; Depression in Older Adults; Impact of Loneliness and Health; Addressing Loneliness and Social Isolation.

This certification includes a knowledge test. We require an 80% to pass this multiple-choice test.

Dr. Karen Fortuna is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Dartmouth College. Dr. Fortuna works in equal partnership with peer support specialists in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Australia in co-producing and empirically testing digital peer support technologies and related trainings. Dr. Fortuna served on the APAs Expert Advisory panel on smartphone app development. She currently serves as editor of the Journal of Participatory Medicine and is on the board of iNAPS.
